Festas de Lisboa and other street activities

Held in honour of Saint Antony, Lisbon’s favourite saint, Festas de Lisboa is a renowned event that takes place in June, mobilising the general population and tourists. Imbued with a great sense of community, the Festas highlights are the Marchas Populares (Popular Parades), the Casamentos de Santo António (St. Anthony’s Weddings) and the Arraiais (neighbourhood festivals), not forgetting the annual Sardine competition – a symbol created by EGEAC for the 2003 Festas, which has been taken on by everyone, and becoming one of Lisbon’s signature images today. EGEAC organises Festas de Lisboa and other important cultural events throughout the year – Abril em Lisboa (April celebrations in Lisbon), Lisboa na Rua, Natal em Lisboa (Christmas in Lisbon) and the New Year’s Eve programme – bringing music, theatre, dance, film, literature and poetry to the city’s streets and gardens, making culture accessible to everyone, promoting artistic creation and enhancing the dialogue between the city and its diverse.
