The exhibition “The books of Júlio Pomar. The roaming of reading, writing and painting”, curated by Mariana Pinto dos Santos, will be opened on Monday, 5 July, between 10.00 and 18.00, at the Júlio Pomar/EGEAC Atelier-Museum.
Júlio Pomar established at an early stage a relationship between his painting and the literature he was reading or that his friends or contemporaries were writing, translating or editing. In a text about Cardoso Pires, he wrote that “literature and art are perfectly inseparable things”.
The books, paintings and drawings in this exhibition demonstrate how Júlio Pomar roamed between reading, writing and painting, viewing reading as the first stage, a pretext for painting.
