The programme begins at 4pm on 11th at Terreiro do Paço when the GNR will be presenting one of its most emblematic formations (the only one of its kind in the world): the Mounted Band of the National Republican Guard. An important artistic moment that harmoniously combines music, equestrian art and military tradition.
On the 15th, the Grand Auditorium of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation will bring together artists Calema, Carolina Deslandes, Dino D’Santiago, Jota Pê, Koffy, Soraia Morais and the Orquestra Sem Fronteiras, a project led by conductor Martim Sousa Tavares. From Portugal to Brazil, via Cape Verde and São Tomé, the show Por Um Mundu Nôbu celebrates the Portuguese language and its diversity.
At the Beato Innovation District we’re putting on two performances: on the 17th, Herman José will revisit timeless characters and songs, weaving in hilarious stories from his career that take us on a journey through the music and unmistakable humour of this unique figure in the Portuguese artistic world. On the 18th, Os Vizinhos, the breakout band from Évora, known for their energetic performances and strong onstage rapport, promise to get everyone dancing and singing along to hits such as “Pôr do Sol”. Two unmissable shows, both beginning at 21:30, with free admission.
Over two days (23rd and 24th), there’ll be Jazz at the Cinema São Jorge. This series of concerts, organised by the Hot Clube de Portugal, celebrates the vitality and diversity of contemporary Portuguese jazz, showcasing four distinct artistic projects that open a dialogue between different approaches. The concerts will take place at 7pm and 9pm and will feature the vocal group LEIDA (led by Mariana Dionísio) and the Ricardo Toscano Trio on day one and the Trevo project, led by saxophonist Maria João Leite and Mário Laginha on day two.
Inspired by the spirit of the month, the Festas de Abril promote the collective memory through a range of initiatives, with special emphasis on two visits to the Fábrica de Moagem (part of the industrial complex of the former Military Maintenance Service Manutenção Militar in Beato) on the 17th and 25th; an outstanding example of Lisbon’s industrial heritage.
Aimed at the whole family, the Festas de Lisboa will also be celebrated at the Castelo de São Jorge, the Padrão dos Descobrimentos, the Museum of Lisbon, the Museu do Aljube, the Teatro São Luiz and LU.CA, bringing audiences closer to history and to these places in a festive intergenerational atmosphere.
