Teatro São Luiz is 126 years old on 22 May 2020 and to celebrate, it makes La fille du tambour-major (The Drum Major’s Daughter) by Jacques Offenbach, premiered exactly one year ago available online for three days, between May 22 and 24.
The show revisited Jacques Offenbach’s operetta that inaugurated this theatre, named Theatro D. Amelia on 22 May 1894. On stage, there were students from art schools all over the country and professionals selected through auditions, with director António Pires and the musical director and orchestra conductor Cesário Costa, joined by Paulo Vassalo Lourenço as conductor of the choir, Dino Alves from costumes, Aldara Bizarro in movement and A Tarumba – Teatro de Marionetas in scenography. In all, there were about 150 artists involved in the show, which sold out five free admission performances, always accompanied in Portuguese Sign Language and Audio-description.
The premier is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. on the 22nd at the São Luiz website.
