Casa Fernando Pessoa, a museum managed by EGEAC, is one of the European museums nominated for the European Museum of the Year 2023 (EMYA) Award, an initiative of the Council of Europe.
Considered the most important award in the museology sector in Europe, the EMYA award aims to distinguish a museum that provides its visitors “a unique atmosphere, an imaginative exhibition and interpretation and presents a creative approach to education and social responsibility. ”
For this distinction, museums from 47 European countries which have recently opened or undergone modernization or expansion works in the last three years are eligible. In last year’s edition, the winner was MindMuseum, in the Netherlands.
The announcement of this year’s winners and the formal EMYA award ceremony will take place during the European Museum Forum Annual Conference in May 2023 in Barcelona.
In addition to being nominated for the EMYA 2023, Casa Fernando Pessoa — which reopened in 2020, after extensive renovations — is also on the short list for the National Tourism Prize, in the Inclusive Tourism category.
The National Tourism Prize is a joint initiative of the BPI bank and the Expresso newspaper, which will have its fourth edition in 2022.
The winners of all categories in the contest — Authentic Tourism, Gastronomic Tourism, Inclusive Tourism, Innovative Tourism, Sustainable Tourism and Career Prize — will be announced on the 14th of December, at an award ceremony that will take place in Oeiras.
