The Sound of Longing | The Portuguese Zither

A fascinating journey through the history of the Portuguese guitar, from the 18th century to the present day.
The particular sound of this instrument and its unique expressive resources allow it to play pieces belonging to musical styles as diverse as Fado, Early Music, World Music and Jazz. The Portuguese guitar is the star of this exhibition, which brings together more than 50 instruments from private and public collections, namely from  Pedro Pedro Caldeira Cabral’s collection and collections from the Museu do Fado, the Museu Nacional da Música, the Museu Nacional de Etnologia and the Museu da Música Portuguesa – Casa Verdades de Faria.
