Lovers’ Garden: The Art of Marrying in Mozambique
Weddings in Mozambique are surprising, but always solemn, rituals; an event of great importance for family and guests alike. They are prepared to the smallest detail and it is not uncommon for couples to wait for years until they have the necessary means to perform the ceremony (even if this means that the bride and groom are accompanied by their children or even grandchildren). One of the most curious aspects of these weddings is the presence of the bride and groom in public parks to be photographed. All the traditional poses are meticulously prepared and nobody can be left out of the group photo.
António Leitão-Marques spent 5 years in Maputo and is now bringing us a portrait of the moments he witnessed, from the corteges accompanying the arrival of the bride and groom to the dances of their entourage, all punctuated by the enormous creativity and colour with which almost everyone dresses for the party.
Every saturday, at 4.30pm, there will be a guided tour.
