In 2025, we’re celebrating the hundredth anniversary of the birth of Carlos Paredes, one of the most important and influential Portuguese musicians of the 20th century. Creator of an original body of work that elevated the expressive possibilities of the Portuguese guitar to the highest level, Carlos Paredes influenced successive generations of national and international musicians, contributing to the popularisation of this instrument amongst a much wider audience. His legacy, rich in both memory and modernity, holds a central place in our cultural heritage.
The centenary of Carlos Paredes’ birth will be celebrated through a multidisciplinary programme entitled Variations for Carlos Paredes, spanning multiple geographies, disciplines and creative fields.
