Uma Ideia de Futuro
50 years ago, the young captains of the Armed Forces Movement (MFA) had a vision for the future which focused on the three Ds: Decolonise, Democratise and Develop. This vision followed its natural path and became a reality. Today we live in a free, fairer and more developed country. But how did we get here?
Six stories, told by six young actors, paint a portrait of the Portugal of today and show us the path taken, as well as providing context for and acting as interludes between a whole host of musical acts. Performing on stage will be the Lisbon Sinfonietta Orchestra, the Santo Amaro de Oeiras Choir, the Choir of the Artistic School at the Lisbon Gregorian Institute and numerous soloists. In total, there will be one hundred and eighty musicians performing songs by José Afonso, José Mário Branco, Sérgio Godinho, Fausto, Adriano Correia de Oliveira, Fernando Lopes Graça and Carlos Paredes. Simultaneously, images will be projected which provide context for the stories and songs. To bring the curtain down, several guest artists will present us with a new song: Abril é Sempre Primavera (April is Forever Spring), with lyrics by José Luís Peixoto and music by Luís Varatojo and Filipe Raposo.
On a night of many surprises, that starts with a video mapping with pictures from Alfredo Cunha and music by Rodrigo Leão and ends with a show of fireworks, we’ll be resurrecting once more the memory of the Carnation Revolution and projecting a vision for the future so that the next fifty years might also be a cause for celebration and pride.
