A Few Cuts: Censorship – film by Manuel Mozos
Our April in Lisbon programme includes the symbolic opening of the private viewing room in the former Rank Filmes building adjacent to the Cinema São Jorge, where a number of films are thought to have been screened by the Censorship Committee. Over three days, the recently restored room – which, like the Cinema São Jorge, was built in the late 1940s, at the height of the Estado Novo, and retains its original seating – will host the screening of a film that is based on the very activities of that committee: ‘Alguns Cortes: Censura’ [A Few Cuts: Censorship] was commissioned from
the director Manuel Mozos by the Cinemateca Portuguesa to mark the 25th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution in Portugal.
