Quase 50 anos · Exhibition
Exhibition of materials from Teatro do Vestido’s “Living Archive of Little and Forgotten Memories”.
Inauguration April 21, 7 pm; patent until April 26
Free admission
Based on a collection of documents put together by genuine memory archivists, this exhibition will share “small and forgotten” narratives/objects/artifacts from the Portuguese dictatorship. The exhibits date from the period 1926-1974, as well as 25 April 1974 itself and the revolutionary process that followed. This exhibition, alongside the premiere of the show Revolution Junkies, helps Teatro do Vestido celebrate another 25 April, bringing to the fore the memories of ordinary people who lived through these historical events, but whose experience is not recorded in textbooks. These are living memories that, almost 50 years later, can be shared, combining the poetry of material and immaterial memories in layers of meanings that shed light on years that were hot and dense.
Artistic director and creator: Joana Craveiro; Cocreators: Estêvão Antunes, Francisco Madureira, Tânia Guerreiro; With the collaboration of: João Paulo Serafim; Assisted by: Joana Marques Brás; Production director: Alaíde Costa

Memórias de uma Falsificadora (Memoirs of a Forger) remembers the life of Margarida Tengarrinha, especially the long period during which she lived in hiding (1954-1974): her work as a forger, a constantly changing home and identity, the death of her partner (José Dias Coelho) who was brutally murdered by the PIDE, her separation from her daughters, isolation from family and friends. In this intimate performance on a very simple stage, an actress (used to pretending to be other people) recreates the most important steps in Margarida's journey and provides a woman's perspective on life in hiding.
Based on the book by Margarida Tengarrinha; Adaptation and staging: Joaquim Horta; Performance: Catarina Requeijo

“But what’s happening in Portugal now is not chaos; it’s a revolution and revolutions have their own laws.” (Alan Snitow on KPFA radio, 1975)
The revolutionary process that followed 25 April, 1974 attracted the attention of activists, political militants, revolutionaries and the curious from different parts of the world. It was accompanied by foreign documentarians, journalists and artists who recorded it in all its rich diversity. As part of Teatro do Vestido's research into this historical event, and with a special focus on the Portuguese revolutionary process, Joana Craveiro has been collecting testimonies, stories and objects that uncover this foreign presence and their passion for “the revolution down the street” or “the Cuba of Europe...”.
Revolution Junkies takes some of these stories and places them in the Quase 50 anos (Almost 50 years) exhibition, alongside artifacts relating to the Portuguese dictatorship and revolution. A unique show, designed to inhabit Marvila Library.
Created, directed and text by: Joana Craveiro; Cocreated and performed by: Estêvão Antunes, Francisco Madureira, Tânia Guerreiro; Sound space and original music: Francisco Madureira; Costumes: Tânia Guerreiro; Assisted by: Joana Marques Brás; Production manager: Alaíde Costa
