Bicentenary Concert of Brazilian Independence
The Minas Gerais Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 2008 and has gained prominence in Brazil and worldwide for its artistic excellence and the strength of its concert calendar.
With more than 80 performances throughout the year and a programme that includes important works and composers from different periods, the Philharmonic features Fabio Mechetti as artistic director and conductor. Its regular performances occur at its headquarters, Sala Minas Gerais, which is regarded as one of the premier concert halls in Latin America. In September 2022, the Philharmonic will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Independence of Brazil with its first tour of Portugal. The concert will feature renowned Brazilian and Portuguese symphonic pieces conducted by Fabio Mechetti and with the participation of Brazilian pianist Jean-Louis Steuerman.
