10 days that shook Portugal
A Revolution never lasts just a single day. The events which change history take much longer to unfold: days, weeks, months, years, moving forwards, then backwards, stagnating before unleashing themselves furiously. The Revolution began on that day; freedom began on 25 April, with the release of political prisoners, and then gained enormous popular support on 1 May. Democracy came afterwards, with the legalisation of underground political parties, the formation of new parties and a commitment to free elections. And it all began in the first ten days.
