The Public Goes to the Theatre

Since 2016, the Public Goes to the Theatre project has been showing that the theatre also belongs to the public, even when it’s closed. Throughout the 2016-17 season, three different groups (adults, teachers and children) will follow the programme and work of the São Luiz Municipal Theatre team, taking the chance to get closer to the spaces used for creating, programming and receiving, and reflecting on their own place- the place from which you watch. This season (2017-18), we’ll be reversing roles. Our “audience” has been challenged to swap places and design (in collaboration with our project and theatre teams) the programme for three days, taking responsibility for strategy and target audience, programme decision-making and budgetary management. Or, in other words, the programme will be chosen by the public for the public.
