Visit/Game: “Manguito” as a philosophical gesture
With three events especially designed for families, we invite you to discover the city through the eyes of the artist Bordalo Pinheiro, toying with critical spirit as if it were a doll and exercising freedom of thought in the garden.
Is criticism a space of observation or of thought? And how do you turn a gesture into an active position of change? This is an invitation to develop your thinking on self-awareness and the world of Zé Povinho and his manguito (an offensive fist-pump gesture), John Bull’s bedpan, Maria da Paciência, Barrigas and so many others.
The visit, which allows us to get to know Rafael’s caricatures through his drawings and ceramics, ends by challenging us to play. But what’s the game?
It’s a game of different depictions which create a mosaic of images and concepts which, like Bordalo’s work, foster within us a critical approach to the world, an essential attitude for personal development and the construction of responsible citizenship...after all there’s a little bit of Zé Povinho in all of us, isn’t there?
