Capitólio

Designed by architect Luís Cristino da Silva, the Capitólio played an important role in the city’s cultural activity, originally operating from 1931 until the 1980s. It was known for its revue theatre, as well as comedy, jazz, fado, operetta and cinema performances by renowned artists.

Long closed to the public, the venue underwent extensive renovation work, carried out under architect Alberto de Souza Oliveira. It reopened in October 2016 and was awarded the Valmor Prize.

It forms part of the Parque Mayer complex, one of the centres of bohemian life in the city between the 1920s and the 1970s.

The Auditorium
The Capitólio hosts multidisciplinary artistic projects of interest to the city and all different types of audiences. In so doing, it positions itself as a venue open to cultural promoters from across the city and the country. An iconic space providing a stage for the performing arts.

Events

Renting the space

The Capitólio is a multifaceted building which comprises a series of spaces with different purposes and features: the Entrance and Main Foyer; the Main Hall/Auditorium; and the Outside Areas (Terrace and Patio). The venue can be adapted to different audience sizes, is well equipped technically and can host all kinds of different events, such as conferences, training events, exhibitions, festivals, meetings, ceremonies, advertising productions and filming sessions, amongst others.
