On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Galeria Quadrum, on 16 September, the Municipal Galleries inauguratet the exhibition Quadrum at 50, a cultural bonfire, based on a curatorial project by Paulo Mendes.
The year 2023 marks half a century of the gallery’s historical journey, unique in its vision and experimentalism in the Portuguese artistic context. Throughout its many decades of operation, Galeria Quadrum has played host to a myriad of seminal artists who have left their mark in the art world. This exhibition includes historical works by António Olaio, António Poppe, Ernesto de Sousa, Alberto Carneiro, João Vieira, Jorge Molder, Julião Sarmento, Miguel Palma, Cristina Mateus, Paulo Mendes, Fernando Brito, Alexandra do Carmo, Ana Hatherly, Miguel Leal, Salette Tavares, E. M. de Melo e Castro, as well as paper and video documentation from the Gallery’s documentary collection and other archives.
