The Gulbenkian Choir and Orchestra, led by conductor Cesário Costa, will kick off the Festas na Rua with a programme of choral and symphonic pieces from opera and musicals. The programme will include arias from Carmen by Bizet, Aida and Nabucco by Verdi, and Madame Butterfly by Puccini. It will also feature Staccato Brilhante to mark the centenary of composer Joly Braga Santos’ birth.
