Museu do Aljube Resistência e Liberdade – New Management

Following the retirement of the Director of the Museu do Aljube Resistência e Liberdade (Museum of Aljube Resistance and Freedom), Luís Farinha, EGEAC opened a recruitment process in April to select a new director.

There were several applications and resulted in the selection of Rita Rato Fonseca, who stood out for the project and her performance in the interviews with the jury.

Born in Estremoz in 1983, Rita Rato Fonseca has a degree in Political Science and International Relations from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, was a member of parliament between 2009 and 2019 and was Coordinator of the Parliamentary Group in the Education, Science and Culture Commission (2011-2015).

She will start working as director of the Museum of Aljube Resistance and Freedom on 1 August.

Opened in 2015, the Museum of Aljube has become a benchmark museum, developing collaborative projects of great relevance, such as the collection of testimonies of freedom fighters and life stories of many resistance fighters, for public consultation and the future. Its permanent collection has been the basis for various temporary exhibitions for pupils and teachers from various levels of schools and was visited by thousands of people of multiple nationalities who got to know or improved their knowledge of a part of the history of the Portuguese 20th century.

This new stage intends to continue and consolidate the work already done to develop new complementary lines of action and capture new audiences.
