September is coming, with Festas na Rua

As we return from holiday and get ready to go back to school and work, the Festas na Rua are a time to celebrate tranquillity and positive energy.

Between 6 and 21 September, there’ll be musical performances in green spaces and on open-air stages, featuring unique shows with free admission.

It is in Vale do Silêncio that we open this year’s program, bringing together two great shows on the same day.
On Sunday, the Setember 7th, at 6:30 p.m., Gulbenkian Choir and Orchestra, conducted by Pedro Neves, will perform iconic musical pieces from the world of film and the greatest works of Verdi, Wagner and Johann Strauss II, in an intimate and informal concert.
On the same day, at 9:00 pm, the total lunar eclipse will serve as inspiration for “MOMENTUM – from the Valley to the Moon” by Fernando Pereira & The New Age Band. A show that will combine performance, humour, dance, poetry and images.

The first jazz concert at the Festas will take place at the Alfarrobeira Palace garden (in São Domingos de Benfica) on 11 September, with the Funchal Jazz Orchestra joining forces with the Madeira guitar duo Mano a Mano, in a performance featuring music from the latter’s ten-year career and five albums.

On 13 September, the Palácio Pimenta garden will be the setting for the Hot Clube de Portugal Orchestra’s concert, alongside celebrated American saxophonist John O’Gallagher.

A cinema screen will be set up on the Escadinhas do Mercado do Forno do Tijolo (Arroios) for this year’s edition of Washing-line Cinema. This is a project which celebrates neighbourhood life and the art of the short film, with open-air film screenings on 12 and 13 September.

From 21.00 on 17 September, a Cuca Roseta performance, a drone display, as well as fireworks over the Tagus, will mark the official opening of the Let’s Go to Macau! Programme. This celebration of cultures will run until 21 September in Terreiro do Paço, in an initiative organised by the Macau Government Tourism Office.
