OSSO Associação Cultural is a collective that includes artists and researchers from different areas (music and sound art, visual arts, photography, dance, performance, design, architecture and cinema). Since 2012, OSSO has developed transdisciplinary projects in collaboration with other artists and collectives, supported by partnerships with public and private institutions. Its experimental projects seek to explore artistic practices in conjunction with critical, aesthetic and political thinking that addresses the specificity of the contexts and territories in which it operates.
In this «occupation» of the Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar, OSSO proposes to establish a set of vicinities between a selection of Pomar works, from the museum’s collection and from other public and private collections, and its sound and visual observations of the social, natural, symbolic and material territories that “graft the OSSO orchard with Júlio Pomar’s orchard”.
The exhibition’s core is an audio record of Júlio Pomar working in his studio converted to a musical sheet. Also noteworthy in this exhibition are the paintings Man with a scythe (1945) and Study for the Rice Cycle II (1953), both presented for the first time at the Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar.
The exhibition continues the Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar program which, every year, seeks to cross over Pomar’s work with that of other artists, to establish new relationships between the painter’s work and contemporary art.
