Coro de Câmara do Instituto Gregoriano de Lisboa
The fourth and final concert of Música nas Igrejas, A noite - Mistério e Luz do Natal no mundo (The night – Mystery and light at Christmas around the world), evokes the contrast between the gloom of winter nights and the light that breaks forth with the Nativity and Christmas festivities. The first part invites quiet contemplation; this is followed by the celebration of the Nativity scene and the gathering of families, shaped by popular tradition and cultural diversity. The concert, conducted by Filipa Palhares and with Ricardo Vicente at the piano, culminates in a moment of collective joy: lights shimmer, bells ring, and the music turns into a shared dance, uniting generations in a shining night of celebration and communion
This is the fourth and last concert from Música nas Igrejas, a program designed by Filipe Faria. Supported by a poetic narrative around the themes of birth, beginning and nativity, between the popular devotional of the 16th and 17th centuries and the sacred erudite from the 17th to the 20th century, it started with O dia – Entre a luz e a sombra no Barroco ibérico (The day - between the light and shadow of Iberian Baroque), by Concerto Campestre. It was followed by A palavra – Voz e silêncio na devoção ibérica (The Word - Voice and silence in the Iberian devotion), by Sete Lágrimas, and A beleza – Louvor no Barroco italiano (Beauty - Praise in the Italian baroque), by the ensembles Altos do Bairro and Coro Alto.
