LUCA – Teatro Luís de Camões has been presented the Acesso Cultura Award. This prize recognises, disseminates and promotes projects and organisations (public bodies, cooperatives, associations and others from the private sector) notable for developing exemplary policies and good practices which promote and improve access (physical, social and intellectual) to cultural participation in Portugal.
The jury highlighted LU.CA’s integrated approach to access, reflected in its programme of events which includes artistic offerings designed for face-to-face and online sessions, with Portuguese Sign Language, audio description, relaxed sessions, conversations with the public and ongoing projects with schools. The jury was also impressed by the continued improvements in terms of online and offline communication, which uses clear language and a simple design which is accessible to all. But LU.CA’s work in this area is not limited to the events programme and communication; it also wants to prevent its pricing from being a barrier, ensuring a more democratic access to the arts and culture.
